First Grade Reading Curriculum

Shared Reading:  We have repeated reading of the same text, and the children are encouraged and expected to join in, as they become familiar with the text.  Through this, we are able to closely study the text, often discussing rhyme, sentence structure, and comprehension of text.

Guided Reading:  Guided Reading gives me and opportunity to provide one-on-one instruction within a small group of children.  Each group is reading at a similar instructional reading level.  First grade reading levels range from letter B-I.

Work Stations:  Although children are assigned in groups, each student works to complete activities and projects independently.  These activities help build various reading skills, such as rhyming books for phonemic awareness, word wall searches for high frequency word recognition, and listening centers for building comprehension.
